Abstract

Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological disorders worldwide, affecting approximately 50 million people and contributing significantly to disability, psychosocial challenges, and healthcare burden. Although advances in diagnosis, pharmacological therapy, surgical interventions, and neurostimulation techniques have improved seizure control, many individuals continue to experience substantial impairments in quality of life (QoL). Quality of life in epilepsy extends beyond seizure reduction and encompasses physical health, psychological well-being, cognitive functioning, social participation, educational achievement, employment opportunities, and overall life satisfaction. This review examines current approaches to epilepsy management and evaluates factors influencing quality of life among individuals living with epilepsy. The study explores medical, psychosocial, and technological interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes. Findings suggest that comprehensive epilepsy care involving multidisciplinary management, patient education, mental health support, medication adherence, and digital health technologies significantly enhances quality of life. Future developments in precision medicine, artificial intelligence, and personalized epilepsy care may further optimize long-term outcomes for patients.
