Complaints and Appeals

The International Journal of Clinical Studies and Medical Research (IJCSMR) is committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of its editorial and publication processes. The journal welcomes complaints and appeals and is dedicated to resolving them promptly, objectively, and confidentially in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Policy Statement

Authors, reviewers, readers, and other stakeholders have the right to submit complaints or appeals regarding the journal's editorial processes, publication practices, or ethical matters. All submissions will be treated fairly, impartially, and without discrimination.

Submitting a complaint or appeal will not adversely affect the editorial consideration of a manuscript.

Complaints

Complaints may relate to, but are not limited to:

  • Editorial decisions or delays.
  • Peer-review process.
  • Publication ethics.
  • Authorship disputes.
  • Research misconduct.
  • Conflicts of interest.
  • Alleged plagiarism.
  • Copyright or licensing concerns.
  • Errors in published articles.
  • Editorial or production services.
  • Professional conduct of editors, reviewers, or editorial staff.

All complaints should be submitted in writing with sufficient details and supporting evidence to enable an appropriate investigation.

Appeals Against Editorial Decisions

Authors may appeal an editorial decision if they believe that:

  • A significant misunderstanding occurred during the review process.
  • The editorial decision was based on factual errors.
  • Important scientific evidence was overlooked.
  • The peer-review process was unfair or biased.

Appeals should clearly explain the reasons for the request and provide supporting documentation where appropriate.

An appeal does not guarantee reconsideration or reversal of the original decision.

Investigation Process

Upon receiving a complaint or appeal, the Editorial Office will:

  • Acknowledge receipt of the complaint or appeal.
  • Conduct a preliminary assessment.
  • Review all relevant documentation and correspondence.
  • Seek clarification from the parties involved where necessary.
  • Consult independent editors or reviewers if appropriate.
  • Follow the relevant COPE Flowcharts and ethical guidance.
  • Reach a fair and evidence-based decision.

All investigations will be conducted confidentially and impartially.

Editorial Decisions

Following the investigation, the journal may decide to:

  • Uphold the original editorial decision.
  • Request additional peer review.
  • Reconsider the manuscript.
  • Issue a correction or clarification.
  • Publish an Expression of Concern.
  • Retract the article, where appropriate.
  • Take any other corrective action considered necessary.

The decision of the Editor-in-Chief, following consultation with the Editorial Board where appropriate, will normally be considered final.

Confidentiality

All complaints and appeals will be handled with strict confidentiality. Information will only be shared with individuals directly involved in the investigation or where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

Misuse of the Process

Complaints or appeals that are abusive, defamatory, repetitive, or submitted in bad faith may not be investigated. The journal reserves the right to decline such submissions while maintaining fairness and professionalism.

IJCSMR manages complaints and appeals in accordance with internationally recognized best practices and ethical guidance, including those provided by:

  • Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
  • International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
  • Council of Science Editors (CSE)
  • World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)
