Guide for Editors

The International Journal of Clinical Studies and Medical Research (IJCSMR) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity, transparency, and scientific excellence. Editors play a vital role in ensuring the quality, credibility, and ethical integrity of all published research. The following guidelines outline the responsibilities and expectations of editors throughout the editorial process.

Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for:

  • Conducting an initial assessment of submitted manuscripts to determine their suitability for the journal.
  • Ensuring that manuscripts fall within the journal's aims and scope.
  • Making fair, unbiased, and timely editorial decisions based solely on the scientific merit of the manuscript.
  • Assigning qualified and independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
  • Monitoring the peer-review process to ensure efficiency and fairness.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts and the peer-review process.
  • Communicating editorial decisions clearly and professionally to authors.

Editorial Independence

Editors shall make decisions independently without influence from the publisher, sponsors, advertisers, institutions, or authors. Editorial decisions must be based exclusively on the quality, originality, significance, and scientific validity of the submitted work.

Confidentiality

Editors must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Information regarding manuscripts should not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial staff, and individuals directly involved in the publication process.

Editors must not use unpublished information obtained through manuscript submissions for personal research or professional advantage.

Peer Review Management

Editors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Every manuscript undergoes an objective and unbiased peer-review process.
  • Reviewers possess appropriate expertise in the subject area.
  • Reviewer comments remain confidential.
  • Authors receive constructive feedback to improve their manuscripts.
  • Editorial decisions are supported by reviewer recommendations and scientific evaluation.

Ethical Responsibilities

Editors should ensure that all submissions comply with internationally accepted publication ethics. Editors should:

  • Follow the principles and guidance provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
  • Investigate suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, image manipulation, authorship disputes, and other forms of research misconduct.
  • Request additional documentation or clarification whenever ethical concerns arise.
  • Take appropriate corrective actions, including manuscript rejection, corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary.

Conflict of Interest

Editors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest related to submitted manuscripts.

Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have:

  • Personal relationships with the authors.
  • Professional collaborations.
  • Financial interests.
  • Institutional affiliations that could influence editorial judgment.

Such manuscripts should be reassigned to another qualified editor.

Decision Making

Editorial decisions should be based on:

  • Originality and novelty.
  • Scientific quality.
  • Methodological soundness.
  • Ethical compliance.
  • Clinical and academic significance.
  • Relevance to the journal's scope.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept.
  • Minor Revision.
  • Major Revision.
  • Reject.

Timeliness

Editors should make every effort to ensure that manuscripts move efficiently through the editorial and peer-review process.

When delays occur, editors should communicate promptly with authors regarding the status of their submissions.

Appeals and Complaints

Editors should consider author appeals objectively and fairly.

Appeals must be evaluated based on scientific evidence rather than personal opinion. Where appropriate, additional independent reviewers may be invited before a final decision is made.

Corrections and Retractions

Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the published record.

When errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, editors should work with authors and the Editorial Board to issue:

  • Corrections.
  • Retractions.

These actions should follow the journal's policies and internationally recognized publishing standards.

Continuous Improvement

Editors are encouraged to:

  • Encourage ethical research practices.
  • Improve editorial efficiency.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of the journal.
