Policy of Dealing with Allegations of Research Misconduct

The International Journal of Clinical Studies and Medical Research (IJCSMR) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, publication ethics, and academic excellence. The journal takes all allegations of research misconduct seriously and investigates them in a fair, transparent, confidential, and timely manner.

IJCSMR follows the guidance and COPE Flowcharts issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when handling allegations of research misconduct. These guidelines provide a structured and internationally recognized framework for investigating ethical concerns and determining appropriate corrective actions.

Author Responsibilities

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are expected to:

  • Carefully read and comply with the journal's Author Guidelines, Publication Ethics, and all editorial policies.
  • Ensure that the submitted work is original and has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
  • Accurately present research methods, data, and findings.
  • Properly acknowledge the work of others through appropriate citation.
  • Obtain all necessary ethical approvals and informed consent, where applicable.
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest and sources of funding.

Submission of a manuscript signifies that all authors agree to abide by the journal's ethical standards.

Types of Research Misconduct

The journal may investigate allegations involving, but not limited to:

  • Plagiarism.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Data fabrication or falsification.
  • Image manipulation.
  • Citation manipulation.
  • Authorship disputes or inappropriate authorship.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Ethical approval or informed consent violations.
  • Peer-review manipulation.
  • Misrepresentation of research findings.
  • Any other breach of accepted publication ethics.

Investigation Process

When an allegation of research misconduct is received, the Editorial Office will:

  • Conduct a preliminary assessment of the allegation.
  • Maintain confidentiality throughout the investigation.
  • Request explanations and supporting documentation from the authors when necessary.
  • Consult reviewers, editors, or independent experts if appropriate.
  • Follow the relevant COPE Flowcharts and ethical guidance to ensure a fair and consistent investigation.
  • Reach a decision based on the available evidence and the principles of research integrity.

Where appropriate, the journal may also communicate with the authors' institution, research organization, funding agency, or other relevant authorities.

Editorial Actions

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, IJCSMR may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Request corrections or clarifications.
  • Require revision of the manuscript.
  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Suspend editorial processing.
  • Publish a Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum).
  • Issue an Expression of Concern.
  • Retract the published article.
  • Notify the authors' institution, employer, or funding body.
  • Restrict future submissions from authors found to have engaged in serious misconduct.

All decisions will be made in accordance with the evidence available and internationally accepted ethical standards.

Appeals

Authors have the right to respond to allegations and provide supporting evidence during the investigation. Appeals against editorial decisions will be considered fairly and objectively in accordance with the journal's Complaints and Appeals Policy.

Confidentiality

All allegations of research misconduct will be handled confidentially. Information relating to an investigation will be disclosed only to individuals directly involved in the assessment and resolution of the case, unless disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

IJCSMR follows internationally recognized guidance and best practices, including those developed by:

  • Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
  • International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
  • Council of Science Editors (CSE)
  • World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)
