Abstract

Neurological disorders represent a major cause of disability and mortality worldwide. Access to specialized neurological care remains limited in many rural, remote, and underserved regions due to shortages of neurologists, geographical barriers, and healthcare infrastructure constraints. Tele-neurology, a specialized branch of telemedicine, has emerged as an effective solution for delivering neurological services remotely through digital communication technologies. Tele-neurology encompasses acute stroke care, epilepsy management, movement disorder consultations, dementia assessments, neurorehabilitation, and chronic neurological disease monitoring. This review explores the evolution of tele-neurology services, technological foundations, clinical applications, patient outcomes, benefits, limitations, and future directions. Evidence suggests that tele-neurology improves access to specialist care, reduces treatment delays, enhances patient satisfaction, and produces outcomes comparable to traditional face-to-face consultations in many neurological conditions.
